High fives all round

Saltash-based photographer, Kay Wilson, was welcomed back to the Dawlish and Teignmouth Camera Club this week to judge their annual Panel competition. This type of competition requires not one, not two, but five images to be displayed together as a thematic collection.

It was interesting to see that of the nine printed panels on display, six of them were in black and white which particularly suited the subject matter, including Lacock Abbey – the birthplace of black and white photography; sombre images of Auschwitz Camp; and an ethereal collection of coastal scenes and landscapes of Ireland.

Additionally, twelve digital panels were reviewed by Kay and this time the choice of colour was used to dramatic effect for the topics of Rajasthani Turbans; sunsets at Topsham and Dawlish Warren; and the dramatic dunes of Namibia. However, the panel that got everyone laughing was a tongue-in-cheek look at public conveniences by long-standing Camera Club member, Tony Wilson – who went on to get a Gold.

Despite the more difficult criteria for this type of competition, members rose to the challenge and produced a really interesting mix of panels.

Gold – Alex Rosen

Bronze – Bob Normand

Highly Commended – Kevin McDonagh
