1st Open Competition results in outside broadcast

Writer: Naomi Stolow Naomi Stolow

Dawlish & Teignmouth Camera Club’s 1st Open Competition was also a first in outside broadcasting as Judge, David Snowden, braved darkness and rain showers to deliver his Zoom presentation after a problem with the broadband signal indoors. Luckily the elements did not faze David as he is a fifth-generation farmer from Mid Devon.

A very accomplished photographer in several genres including landscape, macro and action photography (particularly dance), David has achieved his Licentiate at the Royal Photographic Society and gained his Associateship in Fine Art. He is also a member of the Exeter Camera Club and a Judge for the Western Counties Photographic Federation (WCPF).

David’s friendly personality and positive style of judging made for an enjoyable evening as he delivered his feedback on the 74 images that had been submitted for the competition. He expressed his admiration for the high standard of entries which covered a plethora of topics from soft-tone and gritty portrait photography, dramatic and beautiful landscapes, adorable wildlife images fit for the Countryfile calendar and several creative art images which ‘broke the rules’ of conventional photography.

A total of 18 prizes were awarded and David joked that the three top prizes were all of the same colour palette – brown. Once a farmer!

Gold – David Snow

Silver – Robert Landberger

Bronze – Dave Hutton

Highly Commended – Howard Sheard, Paul Hepple, Marc Dunlop, Elaine Smerdon, Ken Holland, Tony Wilson, Alex Rosen, David Snow x 2, Edward Chorlton, Bob Normand x 2, Nigel West, Bobbie Smith and Jackie Ridley
